How does vehicle finance work?

A financial lease lets you use the vehicle as your own, without owning it. You pay monthly instalments over a specified repayment period (up to 84 months), and once the lease is up, you have the option of owning or returning it. 1. Must be 18 years old or older.

2. Must be a permanently employed salaried individual, earning a minimum salary of R6500 pm.

3. Must have a valid South African driver’s licence with no endorsements.

With any loan, your credit score is the single most important factor in determining everything from your interest rate, the loan amount, the monthly payment, and even the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ from the dealer – or your credit union or bank.

When your score is between 580 and 669, your rating is fair, and you are a subprime borrower, and the dealership will consider your application. If you are between 670 and 739, you have a solid credit rating, and as such, you are not likely to default on your finance agreement. Finance will be approved.

Do pre-approvals hurt your credit score?

Inquiries for pre-approved offers do not affect your credit score unless you follow through and apply for the credit. Anyone who receives an offer still must fill out an application before being granted credit.

Approval sometimes takes longer in cases like confirming employment/ verifying company information.

Approval is valid for 1 WEEK (although bank papers say 30 days) this is due to ITC updating every 7 days, so this means you might get approved now, but if a customer takes longer to accept the approval and ITC updates it might decline the deal afterwards.

Your child is by far the most precious cargo your vehicle will ever have to carry. We love our children and would never want anything to happen to them, yet here in South Africa, we still boast relatively low awareness of car seat safety. It’s critical to have your child – of any age, from infant to adolescent – properly restrained on every trip.

Why this is crucial

Road accidents are the second leading cause of death for children aged 5 to 14 in South Africa. According to the Automobile Association of South Africa, it is the law that any child under the age of three is in a properly secured car seat. A car seat can help reduce the likelihood of a fatal crash. Studies have shown that children who aren’t properly restrained, and who are involved in crashes – even at slower speeds – have more chance of being seriously injured or, more tragically, killed, than those who are.

Most Ford vehicles feature standard Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH), compatible with many car seats, but parents should always double-check that their car seat can be properly attached to the vehicle’s lower and top tether anchors. It’s important to take into account all the other vehicles this car seat may likely be used in as well.

Where, when, and why

Rear-facing car seats are the safest way for infants and young children to travel in. Ford recommends that you keep your child in one until they have exceeded the highest weight or height allowed by your car seat manufacturer before transitioning to a forward-facing seat. There are also lots of convertible car seats out there now that can be used both as rear-facing and forward-facing seats.

Take care to ensure the car seat is reclined at a correct angle so your child’s head isn’t flopping forward. Babies, in particular, need to be placed semi-reclined so that their airways are kept open. Bear in mind that you may need to readjust the seat as your child grows. Once your child outgrows their car seat, it’s imperative to introduce a booster seat. This is because, at that point, most children might still not be tall enough or weigh enough for an adult seat belt to fit snugly around them. Children must be about 1.5 meters – with the lap belt low on their hips and pelvis and the shoulder belt resting comfortably on the middle of their chest and shoulder – before a seat belt is appropriate.

October has been a month of change, the vibe in the dealership is rocking and we slowly trying to turn the corner to greater landings.

With that been said we started off our month of October with some of our awesome call centre ladies singing the anthem for us out side the parts division in all 3 the official languages. We ended off heritage month with a start to the new month on such a positive note. This was absolutely beautiful.

With Boss’s day slap bang in the middle of the month but falling on a Saturday, we celebrated their special day on Friday, handing over small gifts of appreciation.

Then our Used Cars team decided to host a Breakfast run for all our Ford clients to Hartbeespoort to build up some spirit in the dealership. Everybody joined up at the dealership at 9 and left in a convoy at 10 to a nice Roadhouse venue. Good friendships were built up between everybody and this was the first of many more events like this to follow.

Finally as the month comes to a end, Halloween stares us in the face. We will be displaying some of our new and used vehicles at Loftus at the Halloween sponsored event on Saturday 30th. Live entertainment is taking place and a good crowd of people is expected, we are hoping to get some good prospects at this event.

And now we start looking forward to November, its time to be festive and jolly and we will be running into November with the new StormTrak lighting up the sky in RED for Christmas is around the corner.

The CMH Group hosted an incredible Winter Warmth Drive to help all those in need. Warm clothing and blankets were donated by the dealerships, staff members, clients and people in the community and distributed among the most deserving areas from KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng.

The team at CMH Ford Gezina would like to thank each one that made the CMH Winter Warmth Drive possible and for every contribution. We donated the warm blankets and clothing to Rock of Hope in celebration of Youth Month in June and spent some time with the little ones.

The Rock Place of Safety was registered as an NPC when four places of safety got together to make a combined difference in the lives of babies and toddlers in crisis.

Mientjie and Wouter Prozesky answered God’s call to look after abandoned, abused, and traumatised babies, ranging in ages from newborn to two years old. Motorists are worried about the rapid rise in fuel, which means adjustments to monthly expenses. CMH Ford Steyn’s wishes to take you through some tips that could help you save fuel in your vehicle.

Choose a fuel-efficient engine

Ford offers various engine derivatives, each of them offering class-leading fuel consumption, e.g., the Ranger fitted with the 2.0-litre single turbo which has returned a fuel index of 6,8lt/100km, and at CMH Steyn’s Ford we have an excellent sales team who are willing to assist you with all queries regarding the engine size, your trade-in and everything relating to a sale.

Weight is your enemy

Reducing the weight you carry on and in your bakkie will certainly improve its fuel consumption. Fifty kilograms less weight can improve fuel consumption by as much as 2%. If you are not using your roof rack, remove and store it.

Drive sensibly

Aggressive acceleration and braking can be fuel inefficient. Be gentle on the throttle and brakes and engage cruise control over longer distances.

Speed matters

It’s simple: the faster you go, the more fuel you’ll use. Up to around 80km/h, the energy required to overcome wind resistance on a vehicle is minimal. But push beyond that and the drag increases exponentially. Here is a valuable tip: If your vehicle has a real-time fuel economy reading, you can use it to get an idea of how much fuel you are using at different speeds, which will help you find your vehicle’s sweet spot. This could equate to being in top gear at the lowest possible revs.

Talking tyres

Check your tyre pressure regularly and stick to the OEM’s directions. Overinflation will reduce grip and result in more wear. Underinflation will increase rolling resistance, increasing fuel consumption. Aggressive tread patterns may well improve grip off-road, but they will also result in higher fuel consumption. A defective wheel alignment will also increase fuel consumption, so check it every 10 000 kilometres.

Time to tow

Higher speeds will increase wind resistance on both the tow vehicle as well as the towed load. Driving 10-15km/h slower than other traffic will save fuel without necessarily frustrating them.

Service is serious

Nothing beats optimum performance like regular servicing. “Fixing a faulty oxygen sensor can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 40%,” said Ford. “Similarly, using the wrong engine oil can affect fuel consumption by up to 2%.” At CMH Ford Steyn’s we have top qualified technicians, and our service advisors are well skilled and friendly. Hotter weather will probably dictate that you turn on your air conditioner, which will demand more power and thus more fuel. Using the air conditioner on short trips and in town can increase your fuel consumption by as much as 25%. “Remember, however, that driving with the windows down increases drag, which means your engine has to work harder. The effect is minimal at low speeds, but increases as speed climbs, so use the air con at highway speeds.

Cold weather tips

Starting a cold car and allowing it to idle with the heater switched on will burn unnecessary fuel. Starting and driving will improve the heater’s performance and reduce fuel usage. These tips will come in handy as we all attempt to save as much as we can. Savings go a long way, and these tips are sure to help.

While the new 3.0L turbodiesel V6 spearheads the line-up, next-gen Everest gives customers a choice of engines to suit their lifestyles, including Ford’s proven Single-Turbo and the Bi-Turbo 2.0 inline four-cylinder diesels and a 2.3L EcoBoost petrol engine. Next-gen Everest’s matrix LED head lamps, available on selected models by market, offer greater visibility thanks to a raft of clever features, including auto dynamic levelling and speed-dependent lighting that can adjust the intensity of the beam in front of the vehicle depending on the vehicle’s speed. The head lamps also offer both static and dynamic bending capability as well as glare-free high-beams, which help provide maximum visibility for the driver without dazzling other road users.

Added to Everest is Ford’s adaptive cruise control system, available in three versions depending on market and model.

1. Adaptive cruise control with stop and start allows drivers to maintain a pre-set speed and distance from the car ahead and will even bring the car to a complete stop if required.

Ford Ranger customers in South Africa now have access to an enhanced ownership experience with the introduction of FordPass Connect. This is on all new XL, XLS, XLT, Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor models from February 2021 production ”“ as well as the newly launched Ranger FX4.

FordPass: connectivity at your fingertips

When used together, the key features of the FordPass app and FordPass Connect include command and control functionality, key vehicle information, online resources and links to emergency roadside assistance.

Vehicle Status and Remote Vehicle Monitoring: Through the FordPass app’s Vehicle Status feature, owners can check their vehicle’s key variables including fuel level and oil status, and tyre pressures (where the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System is fitted on the Wildtrak) and mileage through the convenience of their smartphone.
