The new Ranger Raptor Special Edition has been confirmed to launch in South Africa by Ford.

Built in limited numbers to ensure exclusivity, the new Ranger Raptor Special Edition has several additional functional and styling enhancements.

The Ranger Raptor Special Edition is powered by Ford’s 157kW 2.0”‘litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine developing 500Nm of torque, driving a responsive 10-speed automatic. Its unique Terrain Management System enables drivers to tackle a wide range of terrain and driving scenarios, including Baja Mode for optimum off-road performance.

The standard fitment of the lockable Mountain Top black roller shutter is a great addition that allows owners to safely secure goods in the load compartment, away from prying eyes and protected from the elements.

Inside the Ranger Raptor Special Edition’s double cab interior, a bespoke feel is delivered with red stitching for the steering wheel, instrument panel and door cards and a Special Edition-only Raceway Grey instrument panel adds further exclusivity.

The new Ranger Raptor adds twin matte black racing stripes ”“ edged with red contrast lines ”“ to the bonnet, roof, lower body sides, rear wings, and tailgate to further emphasise the bakkie’s high-performance character.

The flared wheel arches, front and rear bumpers, door handles, and signature Ford-embossed grille feature a matte black finish. Also new to this exclusive model is the integrated black sports hoop which adds further sporting flair to the Ranger Raptor’s muscular appearance.

The Ranger Raptor features a 150mm wider track and 51mm taller ride height than the standard Ranger for greater off-road capability.

The bespoke suspension uses aluminium double wishbones at the front and a multi-link rear architecture, including specially developed FOX shock absorbers with Position Sensitive Damping that moderates damping forces in response to changing driving scenarios.

Here are several simple ways South African motorists can mitigate the impact of these latest fuel increases.

A fuel-saving mindset and driving style can make a big difference at the pumps and to your pocket. Below are some valuable tips that can help you be a greener, more fuel-efficient driver both on- and off-road.

Choose a fuel-efficient engine

Both the Ford Ranger and Everest are available with a range of engines that have been designed and developed to deliver an impressive combination of performance and efficiency. In the most recent WesBank Fuel Economy Tour, Ford’s 2.0-litre Single Turbo engine saw the Ford Ranger beat all its rivals and take class victory with a winning fuel consumption figure 6.8l/100km.

Drive sensibly

Aggressive acceleration and braking can increase your fuel consumption by up to 30%. What you want to do is accelerate gently. Once you’re at the speed limit, maintain the posted limit while scanning the road ahead. If you do spot a traffic issue up ahead, lift off the throttle earlier to reduce speed gradually, rather than diving on the brakes at the last minute only to accelerate hard again to reach the desired speed. One handy hint when you’re driving on the highway is to make use of cruise control. This will help maintain the posted speed limit without sudden fuel-sucking fluctuations in speed; just remember to deactivate the cruise control when there are hazardous driving conditions.

Speed matters

It’s simple, the faster you go, the more fuel you’ll use. Up to around 80km/h, the energy required to overcome wind resistance on a vehicle is minimal. But push beyond that, and drag increases exponentially. Driving 80km/h in a 100km/h zone might get you great economy, but it will also frustrate your fellow motorists. So, use common sense and be aware that the harder your vehicle has to work, the more fuel you’ll use.

Talking tyres

Ensure your vehicle’s tyres are inflated as per the manufacturer’s recommendation (usually located on a sticker on the door sill ”“ or in the owner’s manual). The importance of properly inflated tyres goes beyond just reducing rolling resistance and improving fuel efficiency: it’s also about vehicle safety. Over-inflate your tyres, and you risk reduced grip and increased wear. Similarly, drive with tyre pressures too low. You’ll increase the rolling resistance, which means your vehicle will be working harder to travel at the same speed.

Service is serious

Make sure you keep your vehicle regularly serviced. Your Ford dealership will run your vehicle through a barrage of checks during each service, picking up on things like faulty sensors that can lead to increased fuel use. For instance, fixing a faulty oxygen sensor could improve your vehicle’s fuel efficiency by around 40%. Similarly, using the wrong engine oil in your vehicle can affect fuel consumption by up to 2%.

As winter ends and spring approaches, we should also prepare our vehicles.

This season, we’d like to share with you some helpful tips for getting your vehicle ready.

1. Inspect your wiper blades with the arrival of spring. We know some rain is likely to follow. It is in your best interest to change your wiper blades. This will improve your visibility and minimize the likelihood of an accident.
2. Check your vehicle fluids. Ensure fluids such as brake fluids are sufficient. Brake fluids help the braking system. Without it, more pressure is required on the pedal to stop your vehicle.
3. Change Air Filters – Before you go ahead with spring and summer road trips, be sure to change your air filter as it improves your engines air quality.
4. Check your tyre pressure ”“ The cold winter temperatures could have caused your tyre pressure to decrease. Also, under-inflated tyres can reduce your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.
5. Deodorize your vehicle -After keeping the windows shut for most of the winter season. De-clutter your vehicle and leave an open container with coffee beans for this.

What an awesome diverse month this has been in the Dealership. Firstly, we are proud to boast an outstanding achievement for Marissa Zeelie our New Cars F&I, who won the award for best overall F&I for the year. Outstanding achievement. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the Ford Ranger Aid Driver and Passenger Safety

When the Ford Ranger made its first public appearance at the 2010 Australian International Motor Show, it was more than just the eye-catching design and capability of the all-new pick-up that set it apart from the competition. It was the highly advanced levels of safety, security, and occupant protection.

During development, Ford engineers ran thousands of simulations to develop a strong enough vehicle to do the job and safe enough to protect occupants in a crash. In addition, Ford fitted the Ranger with comprehensive crash avoidance technology to prevent crashes from happening in the first place.

These Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) helped the Ranger to become the first pick-up in its class to achieve the maximum five-star European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) / Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) rating in 2012.

Safety Evolution

Features like pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking (AEB), available in certain Ranger and Everest models, are designed to reduce the severity of, and in some cases can help prevent, a frontal collision, marking a step toward a smarter, safer future on the road.

AEB uses complementary camera and millimetre-wave radar to detect and identify potential risks on the road on Ford vehicles. While the radar detects obstacles that are farther away and moving fast, such as other vehicles, the camera can also recognise images, such as pedestrians. When the risk is detected, AEB alerts the driver with audible warning sounds and a flashing light. At the same time, the system prepares the brakes for rapid braking. If the driver reacts too slowly, the technology applies the brakes, potentially helping avoid the crash entirely or reduce the impact.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Like regular cruise control, you can set a speed you want the Ranger to maintain, but adaptive cruise control uses radar to maintain a safe and pre-set distance with the vehicle ahead of you.

Adjustable Speed Limiter

Driving on a long stretch of highway? Keep within the law and set the adjustable speed limiter to the legal limit of the motorway you are on. Once set, your Ranger will not go over the speed limit, even if you step on the throttle.

Parking Sensors with Rear View Camera

Ranger helps you reverse into tight spaces with the combination of rear parking sensors and rearview camera images that can be conveniently viewed on your SYNC infotainment screen.

Lane Keep Assist

Ranger uses a camera to scan the road ahead for lane markings to detect if your pick-up truck is drifting out of the lane. The feedback you’ll feel through the steering wheel will alert you when your Ranger drifts from the lane, and a steering aid will guide you back to the centre of the lane.

Semi-Auto Active Park Assist

Have trouble with parallel parking? No worries. With the press of a button, Ranger’s semi-auto active park assist can detect a parking spot big enough for your truck and automatically steers itself into place.

Driver Alert System Coffee Cup

Ranger monitors you’re driving behaviour and detects if you are showing any signs of fatigue. A forward-facing camera calculates your vigilance level based on the vehicle position within the lane. If Ranger detects you are becoming less and less vigilant, an audible chime and a coffee cup logo will appear in the instrument cluster, suggesting the driver take a break.

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection

AEB can avoid a collision with a vehicle or pedestrian using advanced camera technology by pre-charging the brakes for increased braking power and response. Ranger can also automatically apply the brakes to avoid a collision with a vehicle or pedestrian at speeds over 3.6km/h.

FordPass Connect Arrives in South Africa

CMH Ford Randburg Ranger customers now have access to an enhanced ownership experience with the introduction of FordPass Connect on all new XL, XLS, XLT, Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor models from February 2021 production ”“ as well as the newly launched Ranger FX4.

FordPass Connect is seamlessly paired with the existing vehicle infotainment systems ”“ including the entry-level SYNC®1 system on XL models through to the mid-level Connected Touch Radio (CTR) eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system that incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or the fully-featured SYNC®3 with Navigation that is fitted as standard on the high-series models.

FordPass: connectivity at your fingertips

Vehicle Status and Remote Vehicle Monitoring:

Through the FordPass app’s Vehicle Status feature, owners can check their vehicle’s key variables including fuel level and oil status, tyre pressures and mileage through the convenience of their smartphone.

Remote Start and Stop (automatic models only):

Using the FordPass app, drivers can start their vehicle’s engine from home, the office or elsewhere via smartphone, enabling the vehicle’s cabin to commence heating or cooling to the last used setting. Map and Search:

Through the FordPass app, customers have access to an extensive range of search options, including Ford dealers, fuel stations, available parking, entertainment, coffee shops and travel destinations such as hotels and lodges.

All key vehicle information is available in the FordPass app, including the vehicle identification number (VIN), new vehicle warranty, and Ford Protect Plan. The year 2020 was not a normal year for any of us, it has been very difficult to operate as normal due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
